[RP Discussion] Elves and their Personal History

Hey nerds, I mean fellow RPers...

Especially those of you who RP elves. What do you do about their histories if you play a high elf, or long lived elf? Do you (and by you, I don't mean me), just ignore it? Amnesia trope? "I don't want to talk about it"? Or do you do something else like if you're a high elf, you just claim that as your heritage and say your elf is much much younger?
